As vaccines continue to roll out, movies are beginning to land in theaters again–still, many continue to hit OTT streaming or VOD, including some of the month’s most anticipated movies like Netflix’s ‘Concrete Cowboy’, Prime Video’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse’, and Warner Bros.’ ‘Mortal Kombat’ (the last of which will simultaneously release in theaters and on HBO Max).

Here, we’ve compiled the most comprehensive and accurate list of every new film coming out in April, when they’ll be released, and where you can watch them–with live updates.

‘Amundsen: The Greatest Expedition’

Cast: Pål Sverre Hagen, Christian Rubeck, Katherine Waterston

Chronicling the polar adventures of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, ‘Amundsen: The Greatest Expedition’, originally titled ‘Amundsen’, is coming to American audiences for the first time since its initial Norwegian release on February 15, 2019.

‘Concrete Cowboy’

Release Date: April 2 on Netflix–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Ricky Staub | Writers: Ricky Staub, Dan Walser

Cast: Idris Elba, Lorraine Toussaint, Caleb McLaughlin

Previously covered by Hollywood Insider, ‘Concrete Cowboy’ follows Cole (McLaughlin, ‘Stranger Things’), a troubled teen who spends the summer in North Philadelphia with his estranged father, Harp (Elba)–a Black cowboy. Exploring an interesting and overlooked slice of America, ‘Concrete Cowboy’ also offers a heartfelt father/son drama.

‘Every Breath You Take’

Release Date: April 2 in theaters

Director: Vaughn Stein | Writer: David Murray

Cast: Michelle Monaghan, Sam Claflin, Casey Affleck

‘Every Breath You Take’ is a tense psychological thriller that follows Dr. Clark (Affleck), a psychiatrist whose career and family life are torn apart after one of his patients commits suicide.

‘Say Your Prayers’

Release Date: April 2 on VOD–CLICK HERE to watch

Cast: Will Barton, Harry Melling, Tom Brooke

‘Say Your Prayers’ follows Tim (Melling, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’) and Vic (Brooke, ‘The Crown’), orphaned brothers and radical Christian hitmen who are tasked with assassinating the famed atheist Professor John Huxley. They travel to rural Ilkley and attempt to do so, but things go awry when they murder the wrong man–hounded by the foul-mouthed Detective Inspector Brough (Anna Maxwell Martin), they must find a way to complete their mission.

‘Shiva Baby’

Release Date: April 2 on VOD–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Emma Seligman | Writer: Emma Seligman

Cast: Rachel Sennott, Molly Gordon, Polly Draper

A strong debut for writer/director Emma Seligman, ‘Shiva Baby’ follows bisexual college student Danielle (Sennott) who runs into her sugar daddy and her ex-girlfriend while attending a Jewish funeral service with her parents. It’s awkwardly hilarious and a great reflection of middle-class malaise.

‘Space Dogs: Tropical Adventure’

Release Date: April 2 in limited theaters, April 6 on VOD

Director: Inna Evlannikova | Writer: Mike Disa

Cast: Mauriett Chayeb, Maria Antonieta Monge, Paula Andrea Barros

‘Tropical Adventure’ is the third entry in the Russian CGI ‘Space Dogs’ series, beginning with the 2010 ‘Space Dogs’ (originally titled ‘Belka & Strelka–Star Dogs’) based on Belka and Strelka, the real-life Soviet space dogs who spent a day in space on August 19, 1960. In ‘Tropical Adventure’, Belka (Monge) and Strelka (Chayeb) are sent to investigate a mysterious and dangerous whirlpool that threatens the Atlantic tropics.

‘The Oak Room’

Release Date: April 2 on VOD

Director: Cody Calahan | Writer: Peter Genoway

Cast: RJ Mitte, Peter Outerbridge, Ari Millen

Set in a blue-collar bar during a raging snowstorm, ‘The Oak Room’ is a tightly constructed thriller with a haunting mystery that unfolds with a simple and classic premise–a man walks into a bar. Like the tagline says, “You’re never going to believe what happened at the Oak Room.”

‘The Unholy’

Release Date: April 2 in theaters

Director: Evan Spiliotopoulos | Writer: Evan Spiliotopoulos

Cast: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Cricket Brown, William Sadler

‘The Unholy’ follows Alice (Brown), a hearing-impaired girl who’s visited by the Virgin Mary and granted the ability to hear, speak, and heal the sick. Word spreads, attracting a disgraced journalist (Morgan) who goes to investigate, only to witness terrifying events that put into question whether these supposed miracles are the work of Virgin Mary or something else.

‘WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn’

Release Date: April 2 on Hulu–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Jed Rothstein | Writer: Jed Rothstein

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashton Kutcher, Adam Neumann

This upcoming Hulu documentary explores the frat-boy culture and cultish leadership of WeWork, the company behind one of the biggest venture capitalist bubbles in recent years that saw $47 billion lost in six weeks.

‘Giants Being Lonely’

Release Date: April 6 on VOD–CLICK HERE to watch

Cast: Alejandro Castro Arias, Tal Chatterjee, Amalia Culp

‘Giants Being Lonely’ tells the story of two successful high school baseball players who navigate the final days of their youth in North Carolina.

‘My True Fairytale’

Release Date: April 9 on VOD

Director: D. Mitry | Writer: D. Mitry

Cast: Emma Kennedy, BJ Mitchell, Morgan Lindholm

Driven by the tragic loss of his young daughter to a car accident, writer/director D. Mitry’s debut ‘My True Fairytale’ follows 17-year-old Angie Goodwin (Kennedy) who vanishes after a horrific accident. As the town copes with her loss, she embarks on a mysterious quest to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a superhero and saving the world.

‘Slalom’

Release Date: April 9 on VOD

Director: Charlène Favier | Writers: Charlène Favier, Antoine Lacomblez, Marie Talon

Cast: Noée Abita, Jérémie Renier, Marie Denarnaud

‘Slalom’ follows Lyz (Abita), a teenage ski prodigy who’s accepted into an elite ski club for top athletes–once there, however, she’s exploited by a predatory instructor named Fred (Renier). Expertly acted, directed, and written, ‘Slalom’ is a compelling and relevant new drama that’s both empathetic and unflinching in its depiction of a familiar story, freshly told.

‘The Tunnel’

Release Date: April 9 on VOD–CLICK HERE to watch

Cast: Thorbjørn Harr, Ylva Fuglerud, Lisa Carlehed

‘The Tunnel’ is the second Norwegian important on the list (Pål, for the record, is the Norwegian Paul), initially released on December 25, 2019, as ‘Tunnelen’–It follows a bulldozer driver (Harr) during a tunnel fire in a 9-kilometer road tunnel.

‘Thunder Force’

Release Date: April 9 on Netflix–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Ben Falcone | Writer: Ben Falcone

Cast: Melissa McCarthy, Octavia Spencer, Jason Bateman

Netflix’s ‘Thunder Force’ takes place in a world where supervillains are commonplace, following two estranged childhood best friends (McCarthy and Spencer) who unexpectedly reunite and invent a way to turn ordinary people into superheroes–including themselves. Jason Bateman appears as a villain named The Crab.

Melissa McCarthy will appear as Actor Hela in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ (like Matt Damon’s Loki in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’) and as Ursula in Disney’s upcoming live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’.

‘Voyagers’

Release Date: April 9 in theaters

Director: Neil Burger | Writer: Neil Burger

Cast: Colin Farrell, Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp

In ‘Voyagers’, a crew of astronauts, specially bred for heightened intelligence and suppressed emotions, embark on a multi-generational mission to colonize a distant planet–however, disturbing revelations cause the crew to defy their orders and experiment with their primal urges.

‘Beate’

Release Date: April 16 in limited theaters

Director: Samad Zarmandili | Writers: Antonio Cecchi, Gianni Gatti, Salvatore Maira

Cast: Donatella Finocchiaro, Felicitè Mbezelè, Paolo Pierobon

‘Beate’ is another foreign important, this time from Italy–initially released in 2018, this comedy follows fashion designers in Northern Italy.

‘Gunda’

Release Date: April 16 in limited theaters

Director: Viktor Kosakovskiy | Writers: Viktor Kosakovskiy, Ainara Vera

Cast: Gunda

Critically acclaimed for its unconventional documentary premise, ‘Gunda’ follows the daily life of a pig named Gunda and its farm animal companions–two cows and a one-legged chicken. Utilizing stark black-and-white cinematography, ‘Gunda’ is an otherworldly meditation on the animal consciousness that’s surprisingly immersive and compelling.

‘Monday’

Release Date: April 16 in limited theaters and on VOD

Director: Argyris Papadimitropoulos | Writers: Rob Hayes, Argyris Papadimitropoulos

Cast: Sebastian Stan, Denise Gough, Dominique Tipper

‘Monday’ gets its name from the film’s central question–after a hot weekend hook-up, what happens on Monday? Following Mickey (Stan) and Chloe (Gough), two mid-thirties Americans living in Athens, ‘Monday’ explores whether or not their passionate weekend fling can develop into something more.

Sebastian Stan currently stars as Bucky in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.

‘Mortal Kombat’

Release Date: April 16 in theaters and on HBO Max–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Simon McQuoid | Writers: Greg Russo, Dave Callaham, Oren Uziel

Cast: Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson

Previously covered by Hollywood Insider, ‘Mortal Kombat’ will follow ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and release simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. Serving as a reboot to the ‘Mortal Kombat’ film series, based on the iconic video game franchise of the same name, ‘Mortal Kombat’ has proven to be one of the most hyped new releases in the age of a nearly-concluded pandemic–its first trailer is the most-watched red-band trailer in history, surpassing ‘Logan’ and ‘Deadpool 2’.

‘Night of the Sicario’

Release Date: April 16 in limited theaters

Cast: Natasha Henstridge, Costas Mandylor, Roberto ‘Sanz’ Sanchez

‘Night of the Sicario’ follows DEA agent Cole Bennett (Mandylor), who takes refuge in a woman’s (Henstridge) home while protecting a federal witness’s daughter from bloodthirsty cartel hitmen.

‘Vanquish’

Release Date: April 16 in limited theaters

Director: George Gallo | Writers: George Gallo, Samuel Bartlett

Cast: Ruby Rose, Morgan Freeman, Patrick Muldoon

‘Vanquish’ follows Victoria (Rose), a mother and former Russian drug courier who’s trying to put the past behind her–retired cop Damon (Freeman), however, forces her to do his bidding by taking her daughter hostage.

‘Sasquatch’

Release Date: April 20 on Hulu–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Joshua Rofé | Producer: M. Elizabeth Hughes

Cast: David Holthouse

Executive produced by the Duplass brothers, ‘Sasquatch’ is a true crime documentary following journalist David Holthouse as he investigates a 25-year-old triple homicide, shrouded in mystery and said to be the work of a monster.

‘Stowaway’

Release Date: April 22 on Netflix–CLICK HERE to watch

Cast: Anna Kendrick, Daniel Dae Kim, Toni Collette

‘Stowaway’ takes place on board a three-person mission to Mars that’s thrown into jeopardy when the crew discovers an unplanned passenger.

‘Bloodthirsty’

Release Date: April 23 in theaters and on VOD

Cast: Lauren Beatty, Greg Bryk, Katharine King So

‘Bloodthirsty’ is a stylish, gory horror film that follows Grey (Beatty), an indie singer who travels to a producer’s remote studio in the woods with her girlfriend Charlie (So)–there, she begins to hunger for meat and the hunt.

‘In The Earth’

Release Date: April 23 in limited theaters

‘In The Earth’ is a bleak horror film that takes place in a world ravaged by a virus–when a scientist and a park scout venture into the woods on a routine equipment run, their journey takes a dark twist.

‘The Asset’

Release Date: April 23 in limited theaters

‘The Asset’ is a mystery action thriller that follows two top assassins that travel to Vietnam in search of a killer.

‘Wildcat’

‘Wildcat’ follows Khadija Young (Campbell), an ambitious reporter stationed in the Middle East who’s taken captive by militants.

‘About Endlessness’

Release Date: April 30 in limited theaters

Cast: Bengt Bergius, Anja Broms, Marie Burman

Difficult to succinctly describe, ‘About Endlessness’ is a reflection of the full human experience. Dreamlike sequences guided by a winding narrator follow inconsequential moments and historical events alike–we see a couple floating over the war-torn rubble of Cologne, a father stopping to tie his daughter’s shoelaces in the rain, teenage girls dancing outside a cafe, and a defeated army marching to a POW camp.

‘Golden Arm’

Release Date: April 30 in limited theaters

Director: Maureen Bharoocha | Writers: Ann Marie Allison, Jenna Milly

Cast: Mary Holland, Betsy Sodaro, Olivia Stambouliah

‘Golden Arm’ is a comedy that follows Melanie (Holland), a friendly baker who’s coaxed by her best friend Danny (Sodaro) into taking her spot at the Women’s Arm Wrestling Championship.

‘Limbo’

Release Date: April 30 in limited theaters

Director: Ben Sharrock | Writer: Ben Sharrock

Cast: Kwabena Ansah, Vikash Bhai, Grace Chilton

Taking place on a fictional Scottish island where new refugee arrivals wait for the results of their asylum claims. ‘Limbo’ follows Omar, a young Syrian musician who awaits his own verdict.

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’

Netflix’s upcoming animated family film ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ follows the Mitchell family as they embark on a road trip before daughter Katie (Abbi Jacobson, ‘Broad City’) starts her first year at film school. Their trip doesn’t go as planned, however, when the world’s electronic devices come to life and revolt.

‘Things Heard & Seen’ follows Catherine Clare (Seyfried), a young artist who moves to a small town with her husband (Norton), only to find that their new home might harbor a sinister secret.

‘Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse’

Release Date: April 30 on Prime Video–CLICK HERE to watch

Director: Stefano Sollima | Writers: Taylor Sheridan, Will Staples

Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Jodie Turjner-Smith, Jamie Bell

‘Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse’ serves as the origin story of action hero John Clark (Jordan), Clancy’s second most famous character after Jack Ryan (previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, and John Krasinski). ‘Without Remorse’ follows Clark as he avenges the murder of his family, uncovering an even greater plot that could ignite an all-out war between Russia and the U.S.

Michael B. Jordan is set to debut as a director with ‘Creed 3’, expected to be released in 2022.
