‘A Castle for Christmas’ follows the story of a famed author named Sophie Brown (Brooke Shields) and her journey of handling what seems to be a scandal from the trailer. In her attempt to do something she truly desires, she is informed of a castle in Scotland that is full of her own personal family history. Within no time, she wants to purchase the castle for herself and for the sake of the family history but quickly realizes the current owner may be more brutal to bargain with than she had previously believed.
‘A Castle for Christmas’
As I mentioned before, you really can never go wrong with a romantic comedy this time of year. The romance slowly grows throughout this film as Sophie Brown travels to Scotland and comes into her first encounter with the current owner named Myles (Cary Elwes). Myles is not particularly enthusiastic about the idea of Sophie purchasing the castle because she is not originally from Scotland herself. As she arrives at the castle, she is informed of some conditions of buying the house that she was not aware of before, which includes the fact that Myles will live in the castle with her until Christmas, which is mentioned to be 90 days away. His reasoning behind staying with her for 90 days is completely evil because, in reality, he is set on making her initial stay so horrible that she will back out of buying the castle. Shortly after, we see his bizarre shenanigans begin, but one thing is definitely clear Sophie is not leaving without a fight. The trailer for the film is full of some hilarious moments, including Sophie walking into Myles taking a bath, but it gets worse.

Will Sophie buy the castle?
Myles continues to mess with Sophie, but he realizes she’s not budging, and in a bizarre but not shocking twist, they somehow begin to fall in love with each other. It wouldn’t be an amazing holiday film if someone didn’t fall in love, right? This is where we start to see the romantic part of the comedy come in and trust me; it doesn’t disappoint. Before we know it, Sophie is falling into his arms, and they’re dancing around the ballroom of the gigantic castle. It is not clear from the trailer whether their love will be strong enough to keep them somehow together, but I think we can all assume this film will definitely have a happy ending. The family and friends around Sophie and Myles begin to announce how happy the two look and how they haven’t been that happy in a very long time, which really just helps to solidify their romance even more.
As the end of the 90 days and Christmas approaches, the question of whether Myles will stay or go is raised because, after all, he was technically supposed to move out at the end of the agreement. This is the part that is confusing about romantic comedies. Is it truly realistic that Myles might stay in the castle, and they would live happily ever after? If he’s from Scotland, couldn’t he just come to hang around occasionally? It doesn’t have to make sense, though, because once again, it’s a romantic comedy, and everyone loves a good love story now and again. Still, it is not clear from the trailer just how the story will end for Myles and Sophie, so we will have to watch to find out.
