The Luka Dončić Foundation (LDF) is “dedicated to bettering the health and well-being of children through the power of play”. The foundation believes every child deserves the opportunity to play, recognizing that it is crucial for unlocking a child’s social, cognitive, creative, physical, and emotional potential. The LDF furthers this by providing children with various play opportunities, therapeutic support, and engaging play challenges, ensuring they can thrive and grow completely.
During the 2022 holiday season, LDF hosted a surprise event for 200 pediatric patients at Dallas’ Scottish Rite for Children, featuring games, gifts, and activities. That same year, while on the road in Cleveland, Luka arranged for toys, Jordan clothing, and goodie bags to be delivered to local children. Additionally, he purchased lower-bowl tickets for hospital staff to attend the LA Lakers game on Christmas. Luka’s generosity extends beyond local efforts to his hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia. On December 21st and 22nd of 2024, he organized holiday deliveries and treats for approximately 150 patients at two hospitals, UKC Maribor Pediatrics and the Hospital for Children.
In 2024, Luka Dončić was honored with the Bob Lanier Award for April, recognizing his unwavering commitment to positively impacting his community throughout the season. This reputable award pays tribute to Bob Lanier, an NBA League Office Executive and NBA Cares Ambassador for over 30 years. In addition, recipients are awarded the David Robinson trophy, and their organization receives a $10,000 donation from the NBA. “Basketball has given me so much, and I have a big responsibility to give back by helping wherever I can,” said Dončić. “It means everything to me to keep growing my foundation’s work… I hope we can make an even bigger impact next year.” On and off the court, Luka Dončić’s contributions have been exceptional, demonstrating his abiding commitment to making memorable impacts in the lives of children worldwide.

More Than an Athlete
As the 2024 NBA Finals draws to a close, it’s crucial to recognize these individuals, and athletes in general, as more than just competitors in their sport. They not only take pride in excelling on the court but also in making a significant impact off it. An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, “We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.
I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
