Adele released a new album, 30, her long-anticipated fourth album, an inspiring piece that was her “ride or die throughout the most turbulent period of my life.”
The album was delayed due to the pandemic but she was able to reunite with her favorite co-writers and producers from her 25 album to create the masterpiece that is 30. Names included Greg Kurstin, Max Martin, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Shellback, as well as Ludwig Goransson who was an Oscar-winning composer that worked on the Black Panther soundtrack.
What is The Album About: 30 Is The Story of Adele
The release is about her divorce from Simon Konecki, father to her 9-year olds on Angelo. It focuses on the aftermath and what it’s like to move on in the 12 songs that are featured. When asked about the inspiration behind it however she claimed it was also a divorce from her old self and a step into the new person she wants to be.

She announced the album on her socials, saying that it was a personification of “my friend who came over with a bottle of wine and a takeaway to cheer me up. My wise friend who always gives the best advice.… The friend who’d stay up all night and just hold my hand while I’d sob relentlessly not knowing why.” And just as a friend guides you towards a place of rehabilitation and strength, this album is a memento of her new strength and newly built back heart.
Adele’s Album 30 – The strong Emotions Behind The Creation of Adele’s Fourth Album
“It’s sensitive for me, this record, just in how much I love it. I always say that 21 doesn’t belong to me anymore. Everyone else took it into their hearts so much. I’m not letting go of this one. This is my album. I want to share myself with everyone, but I don’t think I’ll ever let this one go,” Adele says in an interview when asked about the emotional process behind creating the album.
We got a glimpse into the emotional creation when she released ‘Easy On Me,’ in Early October with a moving music video and a tease for what was to come. We got to experience more of her singles early on during the CBS concert special Adele One Night Only. She performed at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles to a specially selected crowd that included Lizzo, Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, James Corden, Selena Gomez, and more.

Adele: ‘One Night Only’ Performance At the Griffith Observatory
The performance included a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey where she talked about her divorce and family problems sans filter and lies. Her raw honesty and truthful portrayal of emotions made the conversations about her ex-husband, her father, her new relationship, and her son that much more impactful. She even discussed the importance of her body image and how everyone who’s had an opinion on it since she lost weight.
For her, it’s just a part of her life, something she did as a part of her coping process and as a motivation to get out of her bed and reshape her life.
Winston, the executive producer of the CBS special said the show garnered over 10 million viewers when it debuted last Sunday. There was lots to consider for Winston regarding the weather and predicted rain. Because of this, the performance had to be rescheduled for the following day but all the chaos was not without fruition.
The guest list comprised of 200 high-profile celebrities, families, and friends and a last-minute phone call to all of them about the change in plans. “We called everyone on a Friday to say ‘Hi, thanks for coming to our show. Do you fancy coming in 48 hours instead of Monday?’” Winston told Variety magazine when being interviewed.
And as Adele hadn’t performed live in many many years, especially in such an intimate and special setting, most people were eager for the chance to attend.

The Raw Beauty and Story in The Album’s Songs
The actual album features a very macabre introduction, something a bit different than what the pop superstar is used to delivering, saying: “I’ll be taking flowers to the cemetery of my heart/For all of my lovers in the present and in the dark,” on her first track, “Strangers by Nature.”
The album very clearly reflects her internal conflict over the divorce and how while she was content she wasn’t happy, she wasn’t living, just surviving. “Oh, I hope that someday I’ll learn /To nurture what I’ve done,” she says at the end of “Strangers by Nature.”
The most beautiful and haunting song however remains to be “My Little Love,’ an ode she dedicates to her song son, Angelo, as a way of communicating her conflicted feelings and her guilt. Adele said in her interview that it’s difficult using her words to express to Angelo how she felt and why she made this decision but through the song, everything makes a lot more sense.

“I know you feel lost, it’s my fault completely,” she says in the six-minute song, full of whispered hushes and tones that sing like a conversation between a mother and a child as they tell each other what’s written on their hearts. “Mommy’s been having a lot of big feelings recently.”
She even cries midway through the song but it just makes it all the more touching and cumulative when it comes to the impressive journey she has come to.
Adele’s album is not only commemorative of her growth but of the growth we all experience on a daily basis. Loving others and loving yourself is hardly easy but Adele tells us that it’s ok to stumble and fall because all it takes is a strong hand, a good push to rise back up and prove that love is the most resistant feeling in the world.
