Everything You Need to Know About the 2025 BAFTA Awards
The 2025 BAFTA Film Awards celebrated the triumphs in global cinema on February 16, marking London’s biggest night in film. Scottish actor David Tennant (‘Inside Man’, ‘Doctor Who’) hosted the 78th annual ceremony at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
‘Conclave’ led the nominations with 12 nods, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film, securing its place as the awards season frontrunner. Meanwhile, ‘Emilia Pérez’, already setting all-time records, received 11 nominations, with Zoe Saldaña winning Best Supporting Actress. Brady Corbet’s ‘The Brutalist’ followed closely with nine nominations, including Best Director and Best Actor for Corbet and Adrien Brody.
‘Anora’ landed Mikey Madison the Best Leading Actress BAFTA, along with the Casting Award for Sean Baker and Samantha Quad. Director Pascal Chaucheteux and Jacques Audiard took home Best International Film for ‘Emilia Pérez’.
Edward Berger, director of ‘Conclave’, starring Stanley Tucci and Ralph Fiennes, won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing. ‘The Brutalist’ also secured wins for Best Cinematography and Best Score. Kieran Culkin was named Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘A Real Pain’, while Jesse Eisenberg, the film’s writer and director, received the Best Original Screenplay honor.
In accepting her BAFTA, Madison addressed those working in the sex worker community, saying, “I just want to say that I see you. You deserve respect and human decency. I will always be a friend and ally.”
Saldaña described ‘Emilia Pérez’ as “a creative challenge of a lifetime.” She continued, “Films are supposed to change hearts and challenge minds, and I hope I did something like this. Voices need to be heard.” Her words strengthened the idea that films not only serve as escapism but also as a medium to bring important stories into reality.
Another round of winners included the team behind ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’, which won Best Documentary to a standing ovation from Reeve’s children, who joined him on stage to share such a special moment.
Nick Park and his Aardman Animation team won two awards for ‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’, securing both Best Animated Film and the first-ever Children’s and Family Award.
With his Irish hip-hop biopic on Belfast-based rap trio ‘Kneecap’, Rich Peppiatt made BAFTA history by tying the record for most nominations for a debut filmmaker with six. He ultimately won Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, “We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.
I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
