A highly skilled criminal assassin, Kate, is beat at her own game when one of her enemies poisons her on what will be her last job, leaving her with 24 hours to live and seek revenge on the enemy that ultimately caused her demise. ‘Kate’ is an action-packed Netflix original that will be releasing on the platform on September 10. Fans of action-thrillers will not want to miss this movie directed by oscar-nominated Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, also known for his work on ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’

‘Kate’ stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Kate, who has had her fair share in the action genre over the years in movies such as ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘10 Cloverfield Lane,’ making her the perfect fit for her role as Kate. ‘Kate’ takes place in the streets of Tokyo, ultimately promising a sort of different and more edgy modern version of ‘Kill Bill: Vol. 1.’ Based on the official trailer for ‘Kate,’ it is clear that the movie will feature tons of action-packed violence and revenge. Still, I am also wondering if we will ultimately see Kate leave the world by the end of the film, or will she somehow overcome the poison and live out her days in a more peaceful environment that doesn’t involve being an assassin, perhaps.
Kate Has Joiners on Her Revenge Party
Throughout the movie, viewers will witness Kate struggle to fight through the poison while also attempting to find the person who poisoned her in the first place, which ultimately leads to a lot of bloody fatalities along the way. She realizes quickly that her journey is hopeless unless she can find someone that just so happens to know more than her which ironically ends up being the teenage daughter of one of the people she assassinated once upon a time. This teenage daughter is Ani (Miku Patricia Martineau), who somehow willingly joins Kate on her journey to seek out revenge on the enemies. Along the way, the two create a bond with Ani, seemingly seeing Kate as an inspiration and ultimate girl-boss.

Also joining Kate in support is what seems to be her partner in crime or mentor, Varrick (Woody Harrelson), who also stars in popular movies such as ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.’ Varrick breaks the news to Kate that she has been poisoned and only has 24 hours to live, and we continue to see Varrick throughout the trailer continually providing words of advice and support to Kate. As mentioned before, ‘Kate’ will not be lacking in the violence and action department especially considering the previous works of the producers and directors.
The Visuals
The scenes from the trailer proved many things, one of those things being that ‘Kate’ was well thought out and meant to provide visuals we might expect from an action movie taking place in Tokyo. Scenes from the trailer for ‘Kate’ offer similar aesthetics one might recognize or align with ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ with Kate seen several times driving a neon pink lit car through the busy streets of Tokyo.
Other scenes from the trailer also reveal that these fluorescent and neon colors are a sort of theme throughout the film and also can be seen on the poster representing the movie. These types of lighting, to me, help add to the action of the film and stop viewers from taking their eyes off the screen because a constant flash of bright neon colors can be distracting and intriguing to the average person.
‘Kate’ is in Experienced Hands
‘Kate’ will definitely promise all of the action and violence that viewers are expecting to see when considering an assassin is out to seek violent revenge on the people who have practically assassinated her, except she’s not dead yet. ‘Kate’ was written by Umair Aleem, who is also known for ‘Extraction,’ which is an action-thriller film starring award-winning actor Bruce Willis. Some action-experienced producers for ‘Kate’ include David Leitch, known for ‘Atomic Blonde,’ and Kelly McCormick, known for ‘Deadpool 2.’
With the help of experienced directors, writers, and producers, there is no doubt that the trailer is only a tiny part of what we will see from the film in terms of thrilling take-downs of people who more than likely had a hand in the take-down of Kate. I am hoping that Kate will somehow find a way out of her predicted death and will be able to live a long life with her newfound friend Avi.
‘Kate’ is the Next Best Action-Thriller
Fans of action-thriller movies and television shows will definitely enjoy this film and the experienced crew behind it. It is interesting and notable that Netflix was able to pick up the film. It is nice that Netflix subscribers will all be able to enjoy it from the comfort of their homes and watch it as many times as they want to try to reveal all of the hidden context clues. Will Varrick be the bad guy in the end?

Either way, I am excited to check out the new film on September 10 and can’t wait to see if Kate will ultimately live through poison or at least find the person who poisoned her in the first place. I also hope Avi also takes inspiration from Kate and also turns into an ultimate girl-boss seeking vengeance on all of the criminals of the world.
