Loki Episodes 1 and 2 in a Nutshell
There has been a lot that has happened since the first two episodes of ‘Loki’. In episode 1, we find out what Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has been up to since that cliffhanger from ‘Avengers: Endgame’. He arrives at the Time Variance Authority or TVA for the first time and we meet Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) who takes Loki under his wing and gives him a reality check about his future. In episode 2, Loki helps the TVA find the Variant who is revealed to be a female version of himself (Sophia Di Martino). He follows her through the Time Door and leaves us with a cliffhanger.

Episode 3: Lamentis — The Breakdown
Episode 3 opens with Hunter C-20 (Sasha Lane) and the Variant “catching up” in a kitschy bar. The mood is light and silly until the lighting gradually turns darker when the Variant asks Hunter C-20 a bunch of questions regarding the Time Keepers in which she reluctantly answers because the Variant has enchanted her. The Variant brings her out of the enchantment and knocks her out.
Having followed the Variant through the Time Door, Loki takes a slight detour to collect his daggers. He arrives at the Golden Elevator which interrupts the Variant’s plans. This is the first of many interactions between the two characters in this episode. Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) rushes to the elevator with her minutemen in an attempt to stop them but ultimately fails. Loki opens another Time Door in which he and the Variant fall through.
As they are about to go at each other, a burning meteorite crashes through the roof of the mining tent which has them shocked and confused. Once they step out of the mining tent, the Variant realizes that they are on Lamentis-1. As much as they dislike one another, they work together to figure out a way to get off the moon. Loki repeatedly calls the Variant a Loki for which she exasperatedly declines over and over again. She tells him that she’s Sylvie now. Sylvie asks Loki, “What exactly makes a Loki a Loki?” Loki replies, “Independence, Authority, Style”.

Loki and Sylvie make it to the train station where Loki poses as a Lamentian guard. They make it on the train and sit across from each other in a booth while having conversations about family and love. After Sylvie wakes up from her nap, she sees a drunk Loki serenading people on the train with an Asgardian ballad in his TVA suit. She tries to get his attention by reminding him about laying low. Later on, Loki answers Sylvie’s question about love. He tells her, “Love is a dagger. It is a weapon to be wielded far away, or up close. You can see yourself in it. It’s beautiful, until it makes you bleed. But, ultimately, when you reach for it…” Sylvie finishes his drunken thoughts with “It isn’t real. Love is an imaginary dagger”.
Towards the end of episode 3, the two journey to Shuroo which is a city erupting in chaos and mayhem. Loki and Sylvie try to find their way off Lamentis by going to the Ark and creating a Nexus Event. This doesn’t work out because a meteorite crashes into the Ark. This has Loki and Sylvie in disbelief. Sylvie walks away while Loki has his eyes glued to the destroyed Ark.
Lamentis — Reactions, Revelations, and Predictions
Episode 3 brought us shocking revelations. When Loki and Sylvie are on their way to Shuroo, Sylvie tells Loki that Hunter C-20 was just a human who loved margaritas and lived on earth. She reveals that everyone at the TVA is just like them — they’re all variants. In episode 1, Loki is told that everyone at TVA were created by the Time Keepers. The real questions now are: How did they all end up at the TVA? Are they brainwashed? Why is this happening? It is clear that no one at TVA knows this since they truly believe that they are who they say they are.
Another revelation was the scene between Loki and Sylvie where they talk about their love lives. Sylvies inquires about any would-be princess or even a prince in his life. He responds with “A bit of both. I suspect the same as you.” While this scene is so simple it is also beautiful because it makes Loki the first official LGBTQ character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, his character is bisexual and gender-fluid. Fans were ecstatic to see that the MCU stayed true to the comics.
Episode 3 of ‘Loki’ gave us comedic relief with the interactions between Sylvie and Loki. With the major cliffhanger, there’s no telling what’s going to happen next and how Sylvie and Loki are going to escape.
Episode 4: The Nexus Event — The Breakdown
Episode 4 opens up with a young Sylvie on Asgard playing with her toys outside. A Time Door appears as does a young Renslayer in hunter attire. She is taken to the TVA and stands trial until she bites Renslayer and steals her tempad. She opens a Time Door and escapes.
After the destruction of the Ark on Lamentis-1, Loki and Sylvie sit beside each other as they watch asteroids land in the water and destroy the planet more. Sylvie tells Loki that she remembers Asgard, her life, her people, and her home but only so much. She’s been running since she was a child and everywhere she went, she caused a Nexus Event simply because she’s not supposed to exist.
Two Time Doors appear in front of them and they are taken back to the TVA. Mobius and Loki talk but not for long until he sends Loki into a time loop with Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander). Loki does tell Mobius that the TVA is all a lie to which Mobius immediately believes that it’s a joke.

In the time prison, Loki tells Lady Sif that he’s a narcissist who craves attention because he’s scared of being alone. She tells him that he will always be alone. Mobius brings Loki back and questions him again. Mobius lies to Loki by telling him that Hunter B-15 pruned Sylvie. After all the outbursts and chaos, Mobius places Loki back in his time cell.
Later on, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) takes Sylvie on a Time trip back to the apocalypse at RoxxCart. She asks her if the memories that appeared in her head while she was enchanted were real. Sylvie shows her her memories of her previous life.
Mobius does find out that what Loki said was true. The TVA is a lie and they are all variants just like Loki and Sylvie. He rushes to Loki’s time cell. He thinks that the Nexus Event that they both created would be powerful enough to stop the TVA. Unfortunately, this doesn’t last long. Loki and Mobius make their way back into the Time Theater with Renslayer and her minutemen staring them down. Ultimately, Mobius gets pruned.
Loki and Sylvie are taken to the Golden Elevator with Renslayer. In the elevator, Sylvie asks the judge if she remembers her to which she replies with a yes but doesn’t remember the Nexus Event that led to Sylvie’s arrest.
As the elevator opens, the two stand before the Time Keepers who appear reptilian and have glowing eyes. Suddenly, Hunter B-15 comes to their rescue, throwing Sylvie a machete. A brawl ensues and we find out that the Time Keepers are just mindless androids. They’re not real and now they are even farther from finding out who created the TVA.

Loki attempts to tell Sylvie how he feels but before he can, he evaporates right before her eyes. In the post-credits scene, we see that Loki is alive. The scene ends with a view of three other variant Lokis standing before him.
The Nexus Event — Reactions, Revelations, and Predictions
Like episode 3, episode 4 brought us shocking revelations. The TVA and the Time Keepers aren’t real. It was all just a ploy. The questions that we have now are: “Who created the TVA? What was their motive?” Is Renslayer the real villain of the series or is there someone we don’t know about yet?
Since we know that Loki is alive, there is a possibility that Mobius could be as well, and whoever else we’ve seen get pruned in the show so far. If Mobius does return, we would love to see his previous life as well as Renslayer’s. We do wish that the audience got to see Hunter B-15’s memories as they did see one of Hunter C-20’s memories in episode 3.
What happens now? The truth is we don’t know. It seems anything is possible with this series because of its unpredictability. Guess we are going to have to wait to see what mischief Loki is going to get into next Wednesday.
‘Loki’ is available to stream on Disney+ with episodes being released every Wednesday.
