After five stressful and anxiety-inducing seasons, the time has come to bid farewell to the perfectly flawed characters of the Spanish hit ‘Money Heist’ who won our hearts while robbing banks. The final installment premiered on December 3rd with an episode that reminded us why we’ve remained so faithful to an eclectic group of notorious criminals that unintentionally inspired global rebellion.
It’s a satisfying story poignantly narrated by the composed voice of Tokyo, played by Ursula Corbero, where she provides an intimate account of every exciting moment that instills a sense of hope and manages to soothe our ragged nerves. Her unbothered commentary bears the heavy weight of uncovering the humanity of the faces, the very good-looking faces, behind the infamous Dali masks.

Each season reflects on the powerful emotions that fuel an influential resistance. Despite the conflicting personalities cherry-picked by the Professor and Berlin, there’s a collective enticement of rejecting the ruthless nature of governmental sanctioned capitalism. All five seasons lead to the moment their insatiable crusades come to an end. Our favorite social outcasts are comprised of potent characters and storylines that are equally driven by honor and love.
Looking Back
“It took 33 versions to do it,” Alex Pina, the series creator and the head writer, said in an interview with ‘Esquire Middle East.’ “I believe that the fifth season is the most brutal from any other we have done.” And for those who’ve yet to watch the emotionally taxing conclusion, it’s time to brace yourselves for a moving and soul-stirring finale that will require some time to spiritually recover from such an epic ending.
Aside from the constant rush exclusively provided by bank heists, the show offers visual teasers of Madrid’s beautiful architecture and captures a country’s celebratory appetite for life and history. Alex Pina’s show features the bustling scenes of Madrid balanced by the serene backdrops of Spain’s countryside.

Seasons four and five transport us to Sicily’s charming and wild terrain, where we are introduced to Palermo, a controversial figure who happens to be part one of the two minds behind their more dangerous heist. Palermo’s friendship with Berlin is one of the most profound connections on the show as we watch their reliance and trust in each other unfold throughout the last two seasons. The story expertly switches to scenes from the past when, spoiler alert, Berlin was still alive. Their ambition and their undying hope bring the intense heist to life.
‘Money Heist’ – When Art Celebrates Art
Another reason to be thankful for those beautiful Italian scenes is for gifting us with the now even more famous “Bella Ciao,” a historic anti-fascist anthem that has permeated throughout the world. It’s a defiant song that protests corruption, autocracy, dictatorship, and inequalities against fundamental human rights. It’s a powerful and catchy song that has left an imprint decades later its release in the 1940s.
The show has transformed into a historical representation of what is possible when courage takes hold of like-minded individuals who object to inequity. Whether it was Pina’s intention, ‘Money Heist’ inspired a global rebellion against the corruption and economic unfairness against humanity.

Viewers became engrossed by the titillating lives of worldly thieves anchored by their entertainable audacity and the innocence they desperately cling onto. It’s a beautiful tale of loyalty, corruption, and revising our definition of good vs. evil. From its inception, ‘Money Heist’ captured hearts worldwide who consistently rooted for the Professor and his loveable band of thieves. We just can’t get enough of their daring exploits that inadvertently challenge the status quo and revolutionize how we perceive the freedom only wealth can provide.
The Perfect Recipe for Drama
Their taste for money goes beyond the whim of materialistic indulgences; the thieves of ‘Money Heist’ crave limitless freedom and the ache of desire to achieve the impossible. Without question, season five is the series’ most unpredictable yet, with violence in almost every episode and an inevitable war that erupts behind the bank’s vaults. It’s exciting as we watch the Professor’s mind working ten steps ahead and predicting every scenario he must solve. Aside from their apparent intentions to steal gold, the real story is how they ended up in Spain’s most secured financial fortress supplied with war-grade weapons. Their passionate thirst for life is infectious and makes the show one of a kind.
Of course, the show’s writers had to sprinkle in the necessary elements of romance behind the vault doors of the Spanish bank, with thieves falling in love with thieves and thieves falling in love with their hostages. Somehow, the chaotic context of ‘Money Heist’ feels real when you’re watching the messy story play out, even down to the final seconds. That’s the genius of Alex Pina, making the impossible seem relatable and surprisingly possible.

Time to Bid Adieu
The show centered on the intricacies and careful planning of an elaborate heist that seemed far-fetched and unthinkable when season one premiered. With every season, the show took on a new meaning and confronted multiple issues such as political influence on capitalism, the police, and even war. Any slight error in their plan only provided more drama and intensity, making this show beyond addictive. Season one perfectly created the foundation for a provocative and untethered show that’s become a worldwide phenomenon.
The writers of the series must have known the show would accumulate a mass following since the series incorporates devoted followers cheering on the robbers as they capture control of the bank and its hostages. They cheer so loud that the robbers become emboldened by the stirring spirit of Spain that will spread across the rest of the world. The last season sparks numerous conversations on the government’s role in the class divide and if gilded cages are as impenetrable as many assume. All in all, ‘Money Heist’ is a gripping show that will be missed for the unparalleled optimism it inspires.
