The Hollywood Insider The Simple Life Revival Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie

In 2003, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, two of Hollywood’s party girl princesses, starred in one of the early 2000s most prevalent television shows. ‘The Simple Life’ was a reality series in which Hilton and Richie left their wardrobes and credit cards behind to live in the countryside for five weeks. The girls worked different minimum-wage jobs throughout their weeks (how could we forget the iconic Sonic episode?). Twenty-one years after the show’s premiere, the girls are back, but maybe not in the way that we think. Here is everything we know about Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s comebacks to our screens.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have taken a step back from their party-girl personas, exploring the worlds of philanthropy and dipping into other pockets of reality television. Hilton starred in reality shows such as ‘Paris in Love’ on Peacock, and ‘Cooking with Paris’ on Netflix. With both shows, Hilton was able to win Best Reality Return at the 2022 MTV Movie and Television Awards. Even with her return to television, Hilton has not taken her fame lightly, as she utilizes her platform for good. Paris Hilton is a strong advocate and voice for victims of the troubled teen industry, speaking out for teenagers who have been abused and hurt by troubled teen camps. Hilton is also the mother of two children, London and Phoenix.

Nicole Richie hasn’t strayed far from the entertainment industry either. Richie is a notable name in the fashion world, with her lifestyle brand House of Harlow becoming a notable name when it comes to high-end clothing and jewelry. Richie has also starred in television shows, such as ‘Great News’ and ‘Nicki Fre$h’. Richie is set to appear in the new film ‘Summer Camp’ alongside Diane Keaton and Kathy Bates, which premieres on May 31. Richie has been happily married to Joel Madden, who is the lead singer of Good Charlotte since 2010. The two have two children and have also participated in philanthropic work. The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation helps support young mothers and children with disadvantages.

While tabloid drama speculated about the two’s friendship and their relationship with other stars, the two girls are still best friends. Lionel Richie, Nicole Richie’s father, has stated about the two’s friendship, “Let me tell you something, those two scare me just standing next to each other. And I don’t know if the world knows this, they started this mess, and I was the first guinea pig daddy to go along with this…When they first started doing things like driving down the freeway backwards and I kept saying, ‘What are you guys doing?’ [They’d say] ‘It’s reality television, dad!”

THE ROLLOUT

On May 13, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Peacock posted a video to her social media, featuring a static television playing the “sanasa sanasa” song from the original ‘Simple Life’ series. Fans immediately took to the comments, excited for what is to come from the pair. While the details of the show are still under wraps, Richie took to ‘Good Morning America’ to tease then project. “It’s been 20 years since Paris and I worked together…We wanted to celebrate that. I can’t tell you too much right now, but we’ve worked together to create something very special and exciting. I can’t wait for it to come out.”

The series might not be a reboot as we thought, as Richie denied the rumors of the best friends returning to the countryside. Some sources have speculated that the two will be sharing parenting advice in the new series, as both have young children. Many details of the series are still unconfirmed, but the series will be premiering on Peacock later this year. The two might be taking on a ‘Cooking with Paris’ format, or possibly a reality format with cameras following the pair. No matter what the show may be, we do know that the series will have a more mature spin to our favorite Y2K reality show.

BEST FRIENDS FOREVER

Though the series has been incredibly hush-hush, we do know that this will be a long-awaited reunion for the pair of best friends. Even with the high ratings of the original series, ‘The Simple Life’, there has not been a public reunion with the pair. The two have reunited in their own ways and in their friendship with Richie attended Hilton’s wedding in 2021. However, what we do know, is that this comeback is set to be a smash hit and homage to the early 2000s best friends.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
