Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet is everywhere right now, from Oscar-nominated performances to red carpets and new major hit films, but his fame didn’t start with glitzy Hollywood premieres. No, it actually started quite the opposite. The 28-year-old actor, who’s now dating one of Hollywood’s hottest A-Listers, Kylie Jenner, has become a major figure in pop culture, yet his rise to stardom is filled with laughable moments from his earlier years. Before he was captivating audiences in ‘A Complete Unknown’ and ‘Dune’, Chalamet’s internet presence was a hilarious, unfiltered collection of embarrassing clips that would go viral today. Growing up in New York City as a teenager, he made waves on Youtube, performed in talent shows, and never shied away from showing his goofy side. These digital gems—ranging from his awkward interviews to freestyle performances—have become part of his charm, blending his theater-kid, nerdy origins with the star we see today.

You’ve Seen Timothée Chalamet… But Have You Seen Lil Timmy Tim?

Talk about celebrities with crazy digital footprints—everyone knows and adores Timothée Chalamet. But before he was Hollywood’s golden boy, he was just a high school kid rapping about statistics as ‘Timmy Tim’ in a now-viral video.

Now he’s on his way to winning an Academy Award. Maybe it wasn’t this year (thanks to Adrien Brody taking on Best Actor for ‘The Brutalist’), but he’ll get there in no time. Fingers crossed for next year’s Oscars.

On shows like ‘Good Morning America’ and ’60 Minutes’, Timothée Chalamet has openly discussed his fear of acting and how this career was never what he initially envisioned. His mother, Nicole Flender, and sister, Pauline Chalamet, were both involved in the entertainment industry. Pauline, best known for her role as Kimberly in ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls‘, has always been an inspiration to her younger brother. On the other hand, growing up in that environment also felt intimidating for Chalamet as he found his own path.

Though Chalamet landed roles from a young age (‘Law & Order‘ and of course ‘Interstellar‘), he once saw soccer as his future. His father, Marc Chalamet, a French journalist, advised him to steer clear from that route.

“It’s no place for a child, it really isn’t,” Chalamet shared in an interview on ’60 Minutes’. Torn between a so-called “normal” life and his new found gift for acting, he ultimately chose the latter—a decision that would be part of shaping the future of Hollywood.

And we’re thrilled he did. Without him, audiences would have missed out on the unforgettable performances and critically acclaimed films that continue to showcase his unbelievable talent.

How ‘Call Me by Your Name’ Made Chalamet a Household Name

In 2017, director Luca Guadagnino’s film ‘Call Me by Your Name’ was released, starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer. Guadagnino, known for his emotionally complex storytelling, drama-filled, and sensual style, also directed ‘Challengers’ (2024), starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor; ‘Queer’ (2024), starring Drew Starkey and Daniel Craig; and ‘Bones and All’ (2022), starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell.

Chalamet’s role in ‘Call Me by Your Name‘ is what really put him on the map, bringing raw emotion to the character of Elio Perlman—a 17-year-old navigating first love and self-discovery in 1980s Italy. His standout performance earned him an Oscar nomination, making him the youngest Best Actor nominee in 68 years. The film’s success quickly solidified him as one of Hollywood’s rising stars, setting the stage for a career full of bold and versatile roles.

The film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, became a Cinematic sensation, not just for its storytelling but for Chalamet’s performance, which audiences were able to appreciate. The authenticity of his portrayal, his chemistry with co-star Armie Hammer, and his ability to convey complex emotions all in the eyes catapulted him to fame.

His subtle mannerisms made Elio one of the most unforgettable characters in this genre’s Cinema.

Mastering Complex Roles: Chalamet’s Versatility

Chalamet’s ability to take on a wide range of roles is one of his most defining traits. From the sci-fi epic ‘Dune’ to the movie biopic ‘A Complete Unknown,’ he effortlessly adjusts to each character’s unique demands. For his role as Paul Atreides in ‘Dune,’ Chalamet dedicated extensive time to preparation, from physical training to completely absorbing himself in the character’s psychological struggles.

His dedication to his craft is clear in the way he disappears into each role, allowing audiences to forget they are watching an actor at work– the mark of an excellent actor. Apart from his blockbuster roles, Chalamet has gone deeply down the road into independent Cinema, taking on projects that stretch his range.

Films like ‘Beautiful Boy,’ where he played a young man battling addiction, and ‘The King,’ where he portrayed Henry V, showcased his ability to take on emotionally and physically demanding roles. His performance in ‘Beautiful Boy’ was particularly lauded for its realism, as he depicted the painful struggles of addiction with a level of authenticity that drew praise from critics and audiences alike.

His most recent and arguably biggest role came in James Mangold’s, ‘A Complete Unknown’, a film that marks a turning point in Chalamet’s career. In this deeply complex and challenging portrayal of Bob Dylan, Chalamet captures the legendary musician during a profoundly moving period of his life.

Portraying a legend like Bob Dylan demands an immense level of precision—a challenge few actors can truly master. With biopics surging back into the spotlight (‘Michael’, ‘Better Man’, ‘Maria’), the pressure to deliver an unforgettable performance is at an all time high.

His performance has received widespread acclaim, earning him significant recognition, including another Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. This role solidifies Chalamet’s status as one of the most transformative and versatile actors of his generation, proving his remarkable ability to bring nuanced, multi-dimensional characters to life.

For the 2025 awards season, he earned eight Academy Award nominations, three Golden Globe nominations, and four nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

But all this success didn’t come from nothing. Check out this video to hear more about the star’s journey.

Kylie Jenner & Chalamet: One of Hollywood’s Most Secret Couples

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet’s relationship officially began in April 2023, but the couple made a point to keep things under wraps until closer to September. While fans were split on the pairing, Jenner has been a constant source of support for Chalamet’s career, showing up at his premieres and standing by his side.

This award season, the couple was hand and hand at the 97th Academy Awards—both looking absolutely stunning, if I may say so myself. Their appearance at this year’s BAFTA Awards was nothing short of iconic, with Jenner wearing a stunning backless black sequin gown. As with any high-profile couple, it’s hard to tell what’s really happening behind the curtains of public relationships and social media posts, but this duo seems to surpass expectations.

Now, with rumors circulating that they’re considering buying a luxury apartment in Europe—either in Paris or Milan—the stakes just keep getting higher. If these speculations are true, things could seriously be heating up for these two lovebirds. In an age where it’s tough to distinguish between what’s public and what’s real, there’s no denying it: the couple seems genuinely in love—and honestly, I’m starting to get on board.

What’s Next for Hollywood’s Golden Boy?

Loved Chalamet in his latest, ‘A Complete Unknown?’ His next project, currently undergoing production, is A24’s ‘Marty Supreme, where he’ll portray ping pong player Marty Reisman. The film is directed by Josh Safdie from a script he co wrote with Ronald Bronstein.

‘Dune: Messiah Part 3’ is also in the works.

Still in its early writing stages, according to filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, ‘Dune: Messiah’ is also on Chalamet’s docket for the near future.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
